Virtual University of Pakistan (VU) commemorated its 9th convocation at Faletti's Hotel, Lahore on March 14, 2018. A total of 2026 students were conferred degrees for the successful completion of various degree programs. A total of 16 gold medals, 5 computer tablets and 45 merit certificates were also awarded to outstanding graduates. Major General (R), Obaid Bin Zakria, Vice Chancellor, Lahore Garrison University graced the occasion as chief guest.
Addressing the jubilant audience on this auspicious occasion, Dr. Naveed A. Malik, Rector VU, welcomed the guests and profusely thanked respected parents for gracing the event with their presence. Dr. Naveed A. Malik highlighted the achievements of Virtual University, its leading role in delivering information and communication technology based education and contribution in the provision of quality education even to the remotest areas of the country. He said VU is promoting research culture among its students. He further told that a fully equipped mobile laboratory for life sciences student is underway, that will provide lab facility across Pakistan. He further added that Virtual University of Pakistan achieved another milestone by winning the DigiSkills training project that is designed to train one million people of the country. He said that this training program will impart digital skills among youth of Pakistan. He applauded the success of VU students for securing position at Huawei’s International ICT Skill Competition and winning “Best Research Paper Award” from Higher Education Commission of Pakistan (HEC).
Congratulating the students, he advised them to use their knowledge and skills they had learnt at Virtual University to make an extraordinary difference. He further asked them to always remain committed with their profession, improving their skills and be lifelong learner.
Addressing the ceremony, chief guest Major General (R), Obaid Bin Zakria appreciated the Virtual University, its role for promotion of quality education across the country. He said VU is an institution of higher quality learning and research that has a considerable stature in society. He expressed his deep appreciation for the efforts being made by VU towards achieving academic excellence and promoting higher education at far flung areas of Pakistan.
Major General (R), Obaid Bin Zakria, along with Dr. Naveed A Malik distributed medals and awards to the high achievers to celebrate dedication in their respective disciplines. An audience including proud parents, members of faculty, eminent personalities from academia, corporate and public sector attended the event. |
